Roof Moss Removal
Roof cleaning is important for several reasons, including extending roof life, preventing damage from moisture and debris, and maintaining curb appeal. Regular cleaning helps remove moss, algae, and debris that can cause leaks, rot, and reduce the roof's lifespan.

Why Roof Cleaning Is Benificial

-
Maintains Curb Appeal:
A clean roof enhances a home's overall appearance and can increase its market value.
-
Prevents Gutters from Clogging:
Debris buildup on the roof can clog gutters and downspouts, leading to water damage if not addressed.
-
Improves Energy Efficiency:
Moss and debris can reduce the roof's ability to reflect sunlight, potentially increasing energy costs.
-
Reduces Pest Infestations:
Debris can attract pests, and a clean roof helps deter unwanted visitors.
-
Maintains Warranty Compliance:
Some roofing warranties may require regular maintenance and cleaning to remain valid.
-
Health and Safety:
Mold and mildew growth on a dirty roof can pose health risks, and a clean roof reduces the chances of such growth.
-
Extends Roof Lifespan:
Debris and organic growth can trap moisture, leading to deterioration and premature aging of roofing materials.
-
Prevents Water Damage:
Moss and algae hold moisture against the roof, potentially leading to rot, leaks, and damage to the home's structure.
Two Main Roof Cleaning Methods
Pressure Wash & Treatment
Pressure washing is one of the most popular methods used for roof cleaning. It's a powerful cleaning method that involves spraying water at high pressure to remove dirt, grime, moss, algae, and other build-up from the surface of your roof.
At Prykes Pressure Washing, we have professional pressure washer equipment that allows us to adjust the pressure according to the specific needs of your roof. This helps to ensure that your roof is cleaned effectively without causing any damage to the tiles.

A biocide solution is applied once the roof has had time to dry, this kills any remaining moss or algae spores, this solution continues to work to prevent this growth for many years.

How it works:
-
Application: A biocide solution is sprayed or applied to the roof surface.
-
Targeted action: The biocide solution specifically targets and eliminates the harmful organisms.
-
Prevention: The solution continues to prevent regrowth of these organisms for a period of time, typically 3-5 years, depending on the environment.

Please note some tiles are unsuitable for pressure washing, if you are unsure on you're roof tiles we offer a free inspection to advise on best cleaning method.

Scrape & Treatment

The Scrape and Treat method involves two distinct cleaning services: scraping and treating.

Scraping involves manually removing moss, algae and other debris from the roof. This can be done as a standalone service to clean the roof. Alternatively, scraping can be performed prior to steam cleaning or pressure washing to reduce mess.

Regardless of whether scraping is done alone or in conjunction with another cleaning method, a separate treating service is always required. Treating involves applying a biocide solution to kill any remaining moss or algae spores.

When used after scraping alone, treating kills any growth that was not fully removed. When used after steam/pressure washing, treating kills any spores or growth that could not be seen and removed by the high-pressure methods.

In either case, the end result of the two-part Scrape and Treat process is a biologically clean roof surface. While more labor-intensive than single-step methods, it thoroughly eliminates moss and algae growth.
